Getting Resume Past the Employer Robots..

More and more employers are moving to artificial intelligence (AI) to review and scan resumes. This is discouraging when applicants spend hours online researching companies, polishing their resume to be "weeded out by robots. There are many ways to beat the robots such as using relevant resume titles, and tailoring the choice of words to meet the company requirements. Sue Shellanbarger from the Wall Street Journal posted a recent article highlighting ways to beat the robots and increase odds for hiring. Ways to Increase Odds vs Employer Robots:
  • Network to build contacts inside the company who will put in a good word for you.
  • Use a text-based app like Word for your online application, rather than a PDF or other format.
  • Include in your résumé keywords and phrases from the employer’s job posting.
  • Quantify past results, citing dollars earned or other stats.
  • Camouflage brief gaps in work history by listing years only, rather than years and months.
  • List job titles in a way that shows increasing responsibility and status.

People always wonder how best methods and advice to updating or revamping their respective resume. Unfortunately, there is no right answer. However, there are some general guidelines recruiters would want all prospective candidates to follow when applying to positions. 

Recommendations:
  1. Know the type of position and/or positions you are submitting your resume for
    1. Do not waist your time and or the recruiters by submitting a generic resume 
    2. Tailor your resume to each position your applying for. 
    3. Hiring Managers do not want to read in-between the lines to find out whether a candidate has the necessary experience for the position
  2. Be honest 
    1. Do not fabricate your skills
    2. It will show up during the interview if you place experience you do not have in your backround in your resume
  3. Market to the Company
    1. Are you following the companies social media pages?
    2. What better way to stand out and also to be in the "know" of the company than by following their social media pages
    3. Many HR and/or Recruiters look at
